At its core, novo is a true content management system. Using a database back-end, the system isolates content from design, creating a simplified process for providing content updates. This type of approach is beneficial since by creating a distinction between design and content, site managers can focus their energies on updating the site while not concerning themselves with the intricacies of the design elements.
Design themes are used to control the site’s format. As a result, sections and individual pages can adhere to their own designs by simply associating pages with a particular template file. An added benefit is that you can create new templates, apply them to the site as a whole, and change the complete design templates rather than requiring laborious editing to each page of a site. The long-term cost savings is staggering. The viability of a site is infinite.

Content & Navigation Management
Using the Dovetail Website Management System, content for the site will be managed and maintained. The secure private management facility will allow authorized users to edit pages and create new ones and manage the on-going content updates to the site. The database system generates the site pages on the fly using the data entered in the manager. All page data is then available with a built-in site search.
Navigation controls are managed using the novo Menu System. This mechanism allows users to create and maintain sets of menus that can be displayed in multiple ways including Pop Out menus, List Menus and Pull Down Menus.
Modular Architecture
Providing specific content-focused functionality, Dovetail novo modules are used to build a complete solution or are added to a site individually as add-ons to your existing site. The Dovetail novo architecture allows you to benefit from the specialized management tools at a fraction of the cost of a complete content management solution.
As a company develops a complete web presence, it is often necessary to incorporate several individual web sites into the framework. Each site will typically have its own design and content requirements but a universal consistency is typically desired among them.
The Dovetail novo Multi-Domain Module allows users to host multiple sites within a single installation of the complete novo solution. By associating each site with a unique web address (i.e. http://www.yourdomain.com/ vs www2.yourdomain.com), site managers can link individual templates and pages as available across the framework. Doing so makes it possible to have a unique design and mixture of content throughout.
Using the Dovetail novo Multi-Domain module also offers the added benefit of requiring only a single host environment to house all sites in the structure of the complete web presence
Website banners have long been a staple for sites across the World Wide Web. The Dovetail novo Banner Module helps to organize, publish, and rotate banners within the Dovetail novo site framework. Banners are in their most fundamental form images that typically link users to other areas of a site, or other sites altogether. Often movement is utilized by banners in the form of animated GIF files.
Once a standard size is established for site banners, graphics can be created using any standard graphic application and uploaded to the site via the Banner module. Once uploaded, key data can be selected that dictates when and where banners should be displayed. The banner module handles even rotation and display of all banners across the site.
Tracking mechanisms are employed by the Site Engine to provide key information about each banner including the number of times displayed and the number of user clicks for each banner.
The Dovetail novo News Module is streamlined to provide a quick means for adding standard press releases or other similar content to the site. Use of this module can literally reduce the time of such tasks to just a few short minutes. Content of the release can be easily cut and pasted into the Dovetail PageBuilder application for fast, repetitive formatting.
Using News Categories, site managers can organize news items into different groups of news content thereby creating a more organized presentation of stories, articles, or releases. Each index provides a chronologically descending list of linked entries that present the story titles and issue dates.
Additionally, stories can be uploaded and prepared for release in an unapproved state, and then quickly made live once an official release is made. News items can also be pushed to a Latest News area on a site’s homepage, which provides the benefit of keeping homepage content current and topical.
A common challenge for website administrators is keeping event postings both current and timely. Often as the task becomes cumbersome, either events no longer are added, or even less desirable, are never removed once they take place. The Dovetail novo Events Module was designed to handle these common challenges head on.
Posting events can be done as quickly as event details can be typed or cut and pasted. By entering the specific start and end date and time of each event provides the novo engine with the information necessary to create an event calendar and remove events the moment they are scheduled to complete.
The Dovetail novo Event Module automatically generates a calendar-based visual navigation that allows visitors to quickly see when events take place. Links can also be added to each event, taking visitors to more information within the site or even to a third-party website source or online registration page. For additional functionality, the Events Registration Module provides a complete mechanism for receiving registrations from visitors for both free and pay-for events.
The Events Registration Module enables viewers to register for events that have been posted on your website. The viewer has the ability to select an event by placing it in a shopping cart and paying for it by credit card or invoice. Although this module appears to be an across-the-board e-commerce solution, it can only be used in conjunction with the Events Module. Also, it is not a real time transaction, but it does involve SSL security. After registering for the event, the customer will receive a confirmation email.
Beyond posting standard company marketing information, corporate websites have long been utilized as a means for advertising current career openings. The Dovetail novo Job Posting Module empowers webmasters and even HR managers to self-post job listings online.
Organizing postings can be logically completed by using Job Categories. These allow you to group openings by department, division, location or any appropriate scenario. Postings can quickly be unapproved and stored for future re-use, or deleted once a position is filled.
Integrated directly with the Dovetail novo page engine, the User Module allows for the restriction of content pages via required login. Accounts are self-created by site visitors allowing them to use their email address and a password that they create. To aid with self-management, the system also includes an email forgot password mechanism. Once users create an account they can login anytime to the site and gain access to the account required pages.
From a management standpoint, the user module captures all key personal information about each user making the mechanism and informs the site manager of each account when created. This becomes a valuable tool for lead generation. By default, anyone with an account may access locked areas; however, a second attribute can be applied to pages making them restricted to only select users. By using this setting, pages can be set to only be accessible to a select constituency of your user group.
The Literature Rack Module allows you to post marketing literature in the form of data sheets, white papers or any type of content that can be saved in Adobe’s PDF format. By uploading documents in the Literature Rack, materials can be grouped by Literature Categories and individual or grouped indexes can be displayed.
The Literature Rack Module can also be coupled with the Dovetail novo User Module and require that visitors have an account before they can view the information.
Functionality of the module is also enhanced in that visitors can choose to view the PDF, a related web page or site, select to email the PDF or request a printed copy be sent via US Mail.
The Catalog Module provides the perfect management solution for displaying and organizing products or any collection of items on your website. Items are easily categorized and presented with appropriate copy, picture, specifications, and/or prices. Additionally, the module makes it very easy for the web manager to add, edit, or delete items in the catalog.
