In this episode, your host Ben Higgins tells us about a converted cyber-crook that works for the good guys now. Following the break he talks about searching the Internet or more appropriately, finding a needle in a haystack!

  • How are search engines used by average users?
  • How do they know what is on the Internet?
  • How can you become better indexed on Search Engines

And at the end of the episode, Ben selects an appropriate search themed podsafe music selection.

As always, please send your feedback (or pleas for Ben to never sing again) by calling our comment line at (206) 888-6465.

One thing that I have learned, about trying to improve your site's search rankings: validate your mark-up. If you're site has the best content possible, but the mark-up is broken, or invalid, it may not be understood by the spiders.

W3C offers a free validator tool here http://validator.w3.org/ . By validating the markup, you're ensuring that your mark-up is going to be understood by most search engines. I'm not saying it's going to boost sales on your site, but it will help. Plus, it helps in getting your site to render the same in different browsers.

In regards to finding a good restaurant using Google.. I have been using Google Earth. It's filters work great.

Joe:

Great comment. That's an important point for sure. In fact validation is key throughout the entire process of building a website. Episode 40 touched on it from a design standpoint when building your site's overall HTML. There's also a few other developer tools and links mentioned in that episode as well.

Thanks for listening...
