Last Friday we jumped in to the fray and purchased several iPads from Apple. (We’d actually like to think that we purchased the one-millionth iPad, but probably not).

We handed out the devices and charged the team to do two things:

1. Integrate them into the day to day tasks here at Dovetail -- to find new ways to solve old problems -- to be more productive and to explore.

2. To innovate -- to use the experience to think about the web differently than we do today -- to discover ways to build upon the iPad as a framework for how our web will evolve and how we can revolutionize the work we do for our clients.

So with that, some bleary-eyed folks walked in this morning, and while we as we met around the conference table with a cup of coffee we were all intrigued about sharing and hearing the experiences of the last 48 hours as unapologetic Apple junkies.

I’m not sure what this experiment will yield, but I do know that such an exercise is a worthy investment for Dovetail to find out.

Time will tell and we shall see, and I’ll be posting throughout right here, so check back.

Do you have an iPad? Do you want one? Are you trying to figure out why anyone would? and Share your thoughts.

So is it a big palm pilot, the tablet that Microsoft couldn't get right or the replacement for the lap top?

Can it interact well with your other third party operating systems on the corporate network- meaning not OSX or Windows?

Would you trust your doctor to use it at the hospital or in his office?

Well Jim, it's a lot more than a palm pilot but something less than a laptop. Having used the iPad now for somewhere around 4 days I can definately tell you that I no longer feel the need to consider a netbook in my future. I mean I'm not going to try to do everything on it that I do during the course of a day but it does handle a lot of tasks. This is especially true for online activities. From browsing to email to social media and on.

I wouldn't say it integrates to existing systems or networks as much as complements them. Time will tell, but thus far I am really surprised how it has improved productivity on some tasks. And that's without even mentioning the fact that it might just help me green my day. I don't often print emails or PDFs but do from time to time to really consume or share them during meetings. I have not had to do either this week because I've been able to read and illustrate my talking points with the iPad.
